Farmington, NH:

Winfred Hurley Sargent, age 88, a longtime resident of Farmington, died January 29, 2015 at Concord Hospital. Win most recently resided at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton.

Born December 2, 1926 in Sebago, Maine, a son of John Weston Sargent and Ida Mae (Colbath) Sargent, in 1928 they moved to Conway, NH, where he attended school. In 1941, they moved to Farmington, NH, where he attended high school and worked at the First National store and Harpins Restaurant.

He enlisted with the United States Navy on March 1, 1944 and served on NTS Sampson N.Y. and USS Pierce and NOB long wharf, Newport R.I. A recepient of: World War II Victory Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal (5 Stars); American Area Medal; Philippine Liberation Medal (2 Stars). Honorable Discharge May 31, 1946 at Boston, MA, rank of Carpenters Mate 3rd Class.

Win served in the Naval Reserves for ten years. He had worked at local shoe factories, as a police officer in Farmington and was retired from the former Clarostat in Dover, after 32 years.

A communicant of Trinity Anglican Church in Rochester, he was a Past Commander of Post 6806 V.F.W., a Past Commander of Post 60 American Legion and a former Chaplain of D.A.V. Unit 23 in Farmington.

Winfred loved hunting, fishing and most especially, being with his family.

Married to Lorraine G. (Veno) Sargent in 1946, until her passing in 2013, he is survived by their six children: Sharon Stawecki, David Sargent, Kenneth Sargent, George Sargent, Donna Ann Lobdell and Darlene Foster, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister Evelyn M. Derby and 3 brothers: Raymond Sargent, George Sargent and Freeman Sargent.

Calling hours are Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 5-7 pm with a service at 7pm at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH. Interment with military honors will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to: NH Veterans Home, Tilton, NH 03276.
