William F. Sullivan, Jr. "Bill", age 89, of Main Street in Alton, passed away March 5, 2012 at Forestview Manor in Meredith, after a long illness.
Born September 4, 1922 and brought up in Dorchester, Mass., the son of William F. Sullivan, Sr. and Alice M. (Young) Sullivan, he was a graduate of Mechanic Arts High School in Boston, MA.
He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Air Force, member of the 459th Bomb Group. After serving in the military, he was employed by AT&T, until retiring in 1983. Upon his retirement, he settled in Alton, where he was a member of Claude R. Batchelder Post #72, American Legion.
An avid skier, his hobby was making things out of wood in his work shop.
Bill always had a warm smile and a good word for all that knew him, a zest for life and a true love for his family and many friends.
Beloved husband of Betty (Young) Sullivan and father of William F. Sullivan, III, Pamela Sullivan, Lois Reed and Vera Sullivan, a step-daughter Linda Johnson, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, 2 brothers: Andrew J. Sullivan and Edward Sullivan, 5 sisters: Alice Walsh, Grace Travers, Kathryn Fennel, Ann Weaver and Virginia Roberts, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Paul Sullivan and 3 sisters: Rita Sullivan, MM, Dorothy Cornelissen and Mildred Wheeler.
Bill will be sadly missed, may he rest in peace.
A Memorial Mass will be held in the spring at St. Katharine Drexel Church in Alton with urn interment at New Riverside Cemetery in Alton.
