Obituary

William "Bill" Crocker, (82) long time resident of Alton Bay, New Hampshire and Dowling Park, Florida, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 after a prolonged illness.

Bill was born in Medford, Massachusetts, the 4th of 5 sons to Albert Richard Crocker, Sr & Beatrice Mae Horne Crocker.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 of his 4 brothers, Albert "Dick" Crocker, Jr., Robert "Bob" Crocker, and Harold Crocker. He is survived by his younger brother, Gordon Wayne Crocker, of Jefferson, NC, and several nieces and nephews, cousins, and numerous extended relatives and friends that he considered and called family.

Bill worked for the railroad for many years, eventually retiring from Amtrack while working as a ticket agent in the hub at Boston Gardens. Known as "Uncle Bill" by multiple generations at the Advent Christian Campground at Alton Bay, his cottage door was always open for drop in's. Kids, and adults too, came by frequently for a treat from his candy table, always fully stocked with at least 15 bowls of favorite treats. His fridge was stocked with drinks, and his freezer also had a minimum of 10 flavors of ice cream for visitors which might show up at any time of the day or evening.

Bill volunteered at the campground serving in the dining hall, or snack shop as needed, and worked numerous retreats with the food service crew. He planted fresh flowers all over the campground, tending and watering them daily. He was a familiar sight on any of the roads and paths visiting relatives and friends, dropping by as is the custom of the community. The prayer altar on the campgrounds were of particular Importance to Bill. Begun as work by his father, Bill and his brother, Bob, provided upkeep of the site.

He remembered birthdays, anniversaries, and countless other events in people's lives. His sociability generally included an invitation "to come and stay any time they were in the area".

"Uncle Bill" is deeply missed by all those he leaves behind. His caring, giving heart is an example to us all, but it will be hard to match his energy, willingness ... and his appetite! He was frequently known to finish up all the left-overs, and even help clean off the untouched food on other's plates. But there was always room for dessert!

An ice-cream social for family and friends to remember and honor Bill will be held at the Dining Hall at Alton Bay grounds on July 15, 2023 from 3 to 5 pm.

Memorial Gifts may be given to Alton Bay Campmeeting Association or to Advent Christian Home, Dowlin Park, FL.
