Walter Harries Young
Walter "Bud" Young, age 91, of Alton, New Hampshire, died in Laconia, on April 27, 2012.
He was born October 4, 1920, in Farmington, NH, the only son of Walter H. Young and Edna (Olson) Young. Bud was a lifelong resident of Alton, where his family owed the Oak Birch Inn in Alton Bay. He also lived in Boca Grande and Bonita Springs, Florida. He was a resident at Genesis Health for three years prior to his death.
Walter served in the U.S. Navy during World War II for eight years as a metal smith. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Pacific Asiatic Area Ribbon and Commendation Ribbon.
Walter worked a builder, electrician and motion picture operator. His workmanship is part of many buildings in the Lakes' Region. When he retired, he enjoyed riding his bicycle around Alton and Florida, fishing, ballroom dancing and was a world champion bow hunter, winning tournaments well into his 80s.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his children, Walter C. and Brenda J. Young of Alton, Linda Young and Lauren Seyfer of Virginia, and his niece, Jean Lebrecque of New Durham as well as great nieces and nephews. He was friend and mentor of Ricky and Debbie Reese of Maine and Douglas Rooney of Alton. Walter will be dearly missed by his beloved long-time companion, Evelyn Boudreau of Weirs Beach. He is pre-deceased by his sister, Norma Gray.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 30, 2012 from 7 to 9 PM at Peaslee Alton Funeral Home, 12 School Street, Alton, NH with a funeral on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
