Obituary

Virginia A. McGinley (Palmieri)
"Ginny," "Virg"
91 Years Old
October 25, 1933 – August 22, 2025

Virginia A. McGinley, of Brookfield, NH, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord, NH, after a short illness. She was 91 years old.

Born and raised in South Boston, Massachusetts, Virginia was one of three daughters of Muriel and Russell Palmieri. She began her professional career at Walworth's South Boston/Braintree office, where her love of business began. She continued working in Walworth's Business Section until 1963, when she married Walter "Mac" McGinley.

Mac and Virginia raised their family in South Boston, where they enjoyed the closeness of the ocean, New England beaches, and frequent trips to the mountains of New Hampshire. In 1978, they moved to Brookfield, NH, where Virginia became deeply rooted in the community.

In 1984, encouraged by Mac and a close friend, Virginia was elected Brookfield Town Clerk—a position she faithfully served in for more than 30 years. Her first office was at her kitchen table, where Town business often paused for Monday "suppah" after closing at 8:45 p.m., with Mac's homemade chicken soup simmering on the stove. Later, her office moved to the Town Office Building, where her desk was filled with mementos of family and friends.

Dedicated to her role, Virginia attended countless workshops and seminars to stay current with regulations and laws. She was a proud member of the New Hampshire City and Town Clerk Association, completing its three-year joint certification program. She also chaired registration, mentored new clerks, served on the Annual Conference Committee, and took courses with the International Municipal Clerks organization, DMV, MAAP, and vital statistics and election programs. Among colleagues, she was affectionately known—alongside her friend Pat Waterman of Wolfeboro—as "Thelma and Louise."

Virginia was an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots and took great joy in cheering on her grandsons at their many sporting events, as well as visiting her granddaughter and family. She loved camping with Mac, trips to Disney World and Key West, seashell hunting, gardening, painting, and puzzles.

A longtime member of Saint Anthony's Church in Wakefield, she taught Faith Formation for many years and was active in parish fundraisers and events. She also volunteered at the Wright Museum of Wolfeboro, an organization that held a special place in her and Mac's hearts.

Virginia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter E. "Mac" McGinley Jr.; her loving sister, Marie T. Gates (Palmieri); her late son-in-law, Paul A. Fallon; and her stepson, Walter E. McGinley III.

She is survived by her loving sister, Muriel Irvine of Braintree, MA; her children, Cathleen A. Fallon-Evans (Brian Evans) of Amherst, NH, and Michael E. McGinley (Erin B. McGinley) of Exeter, NH; her stepson, James C. McGinley (Susan McGinley) of Reidsville, NC; and her grandchildren, Elizabeth A Fallon, Aidan T. McGinley, Connor J. McGinley, step grandson Paul A. Fallon Jr., and many special nieces, nephews, and extended family and dear friends.

The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at Concord Hospital, the Granite State Hospice House, and John H. Whittaker Place, where Virginia resided since March 2025. Their kindness, care, and support brought her peace and comfort. Deep gratitude is also extended to the many friends and neighbors in Brookfield—including Karen, Jennifer, Marilyn, Amanda, and Thad—who supported Virginia with love and care.

A committal service will be held on October 24, 2025, at 12 noon in the chapel located at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Virginia's wishes by making donations in her name to the Wright Museum of Wolfeboro, NH, or the Granite VNA Association Concord, NH.
