Obituary

Vincent Austin Tanner, age 98, longtime resident of Milton, died Nov. 5, 2011 at the Rochester Manor.



Born March 27, 1913 in West Lebanon, Maine, he was the son of Herbert E. Tanner, Marie (Devaney) Tanner Kendall and stepson of Algin Kendall.



A United States Army Veteran, he served from 1931-1933 in California and Florida. He married Ruth Marion Ramsey on Sept. 26, 1936. In 1943, he was issued a Certificate of Service, a Seaman, he had served with the United States Department of Commerce, Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation at the Port of New York.



Vincent was a security guard in California, he also had worked in the shoe industry and he worked many years in the model shop at Davidson Rubber in Farmington.



An outdoor enthusiast, he loved hunting, fishing and trapping. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Vincent was a kind, generous and caring man, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.



He is survived by his loving wife of 76 years: Ruth Ramsey Tanner (age 100), also many nieces and nephews, and a lifetime friend: Arnie and Claire Williams. He was predeceased by his brothers: Waldo P. Tanner, Clarence P. Tanner, Herbert Tanner, Paul Kendall and his sisters: Isadore Canney, Marie Haselton Roth and Adele Tanner.



As per his wishes, there are no calling hours, family and friends are welcome to a Graveside Service on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Milton Mills Cemetery.
