Obituary
Vincent J. Bober, age 90, of Ridge Road in New Durham, died June 13, 2011 at home.
Born April 5, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Xavier F. and Eleonora Mary (Huttinger) Bober, he was a graduate of Salem High School in Salem, OH. He moved East from Ohio in 1963 to Rochester, NH, until building a home on Ridge Road in New Durham.
A United States Army Veteran, he served with the Eighth Army Transportation Corp, under General Eichelberger in the Pacific Theatre, during World War II. He was invited to attend and was on the deck of the "Missouri" for the signing of the surrender of Japan.
While in Ohio, he owned a tool and die shop in Salem, OH and was a land developer there. An engineer, he was employed as a manufacturing manager at Eastern Air Devices in Dover. He retired, having owned and operated Bober Ford in Rochester for years.
Vince was an active member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society and a past member of the New Hampshire Auto Dealers Association. He loved antique cars and boats and enjoyed drag racing.
He was a communicant at St. Mary's Church in Rochester and St. Peter's Church in Farmington, and had taught CCD.
Survived by his wife of 69 years: Mary Catherine (Fisher) Bober and their two sons: Vincent J. Bober, II and wife Barbara of Rochester, Edward A. Bober and wife Judy of Rochester, 5 grandchildren: Christyn Peters, Vincent J. Bober, III, Sara Carrier, James Bober and John Bober, 9 great grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 children: Mary Catherine and Leslie, in infancy, a brother: Xavier F. Bober, Jr. and a sister: Eleonora Mary Bober.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 17, 2011 at St. Peter's Church, 88 Central Street, Farmington, NH at 10:00 am with Fr. Daniel J. Sinibaldi, pastor, as celebrant. A calling hour is prior to the service from 8:30-9:30 am at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington. Interment will follow the mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rochester.
