Thomas T. Sackos, 68, passed away, on Friday, March 11, 2016, in his home, with his family by his side ,after a very lengthy illness. He fought long and hard to remain in his family's lives.
He was born September 15, 1947, in Winchester, Mass. Tom grew up in Arlington, Mass., and attended St. Agnes School. His family moved to Woburn, Mass., during his teen years where he graduated from Woburn High School, Class of 1966.
Tom worked from 1966-1969 at the Boston Naval Shipyard, Charlestown, Mass., as a boilermaker. From 1969-2007, a total of 38 years, he was employed by Boston Edison, Mystic Station, Charlestown, Mass., where he started as a station cleaner and progressed to Auxiliary Tender, Auxiliary Operator, Boiler Operator, and Central Control Operator. He was a member and former steward of AFL-CIO-UWUA Local 369 and a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #72. In his retirement he enjoyed driving a First Student school bus for Alton sports and field trips.
Tom relocated his family to Alton in 1982 but continued to commute to Charlestown. He enjoyed fishing, boating, motorcycles, snowmobiles and especially spending time with family on the lake. He was a devoted family man and adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He took great pride in watching them all grow up. Tom was a true friend and valued his many friendships - many continuing from high school to this day. The morning coffee crew at McDonald's were very special to him.
Tom is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Betty, for 48 years, his daughter, Stacey and her husband, Michael Seward of Alton and his son, Dana Sackos and wife, Jennifer of Concord, NH; five grandchildren: Nick Sackos, Joe and Stephanie Lundy, Connor and Leighton Sackos; two great-sons, Landon and Maxwell Sackos. His mother-in-law, Virginia Wheaton, loved him as a son. His extended family includes Roger and Martha Wheaton of Woburn, Mass., and Chris and Jorge Graupera of Stratham, NH, and many nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved very much.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Evelyn (Harris) and Andrew T. Sackos and two brothers, David and James Sackos.
Visiting Hours are Tuesday from 4-8pm at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday March 16, 2016 at 11am at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 40 Hidden Springs Road (Route 28N) in Alton, NH with Fr. Robert F. Cole, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow at New Riverside Cemetery in Alton. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Central NH VNA and Hospice, P.O.
