October 30, 1932 – April 29, 2023
Thomas J. Diveny of Alton, NH passed away at home on April 29, 2023 at the age of 90. Formerly a long-time resident of Montclair NJ, Mr. Diveny moved to Alton with his son and daughter-in-law in 2020. He was born October 1923 at St. Vincent's Hospital, Montclair to John and Mary (Riker) Diveny. Tom attended Immaculate Conception in Montclair from grammar school to high school where he was actively involved in basketball, baseball and football. He enlisted in the service after high school and served in the U.S. Army as a member of the Third Armored Calvary Regiment from 1953-1955. In 1957 he married the love of his life, Barbara Warren and began their life together in Montclair where he served as a second-generation Montclair firefighter. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant after 37 years.
Tom was one of 9 children and was proud of his Irish heritage. He was a relentless sports fan, never missing a football game involving Army or Notre Dame. He enjoyed regular family gatherings and watching the family grow to include his beloved granddaughter, Erin Megan Diveny. He is predeceased in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, and seven of his nine siblings. He is survived by his son, Thomas and his wife Carol, his cherished granddaughter, Erin, his beloved sister Ann Towey, many dear nieces and nephews and other loved family members.
There will be a private ceremony in Alton of family and friends. Services in New Jersey will occur later.
