Sydney E. Ross, age 72, of Elm Street in Wakefield, died July 17, 2014 at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover.
Born January 17, 1942 in Somerville, MA, the son of John M. and Mildred (Ellyatt) Ross, he was raised in Medford, MA, resided in Billerica, MA for many years, lived in Milton, NH for 15 years, resided in Florida and Virginia for several years and lived the past 8 years in Wakefield, NH.
He served in the United States Navy, serving on the U.S. Zellars DD 777 from 1960-1964 during Vietnam.
Syd was a member of the American Legion. He was one of the founders of V.F.W. Post #8393 in Milton, also serving as Adjutant General and Quarter Master in earlier years.
A Mason with Fraternal Lodge No. 71 F. & A.M. in Farmington, he was also a Shriner with the Bektash Temple in Concord.
Syd had owned and operated "Floors R Us" in New Hampshire and "Baystate Carpet" in Massachusetts. With his wife Carol, they developed "Sunny Brook Cottages" in Albany, NH and together enjoyed time traveling in their motorhome with their dogs.
Survived by his wife of 30 years: Carol (Peterson) Ross, by his first wife of 17 years: Marilee Ross Duff, 3 children: Michael and wife Jessica Ross of Maui, their children: Craig and Nicole, Michelle and husband James McNeill of Hudson, NH, their children Jim and Kellee, Kimberlee Chartier of Provincetown, MA, her children: Kandice, Ryan, Andrew and Corey, his brother: Melvin Ross and family, a good family friend: Annie Macy of Stowe, VT and his pup "Abbey".
There are no calling hours, family and friends are welcome to a graveside service on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 12Noon at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road in Springvale, Maine, with military honors by the United States Navy.
