IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven Jay
Cohen
July 3, 1963 – February 24, 2024
Steven Jay Cohen died of natural causes on February 24, 2024 in his home in Alton, New Hampshire, where he lived with his beloved cat Sven. He was sixty years old. Born in West Orange, New Jersey to Anita and Milton Cohen, Steve worked as part of the kitchen staff at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro for eighteen years. When asked how things were going, he would often complain about his own life, but was quick to let you know that Sven was doing well. Steve overcame a near fatal bicycle accident as a kid and managed to carve out a fruitful life for himself despite major handicaps and hardships. He loved classic rock like Van Halen and Led Zeppelin, World Wide Wrestling, animals of all kinds, and his family. He was loyal, compassionate, and wore his heart on his sleeve. He was also an expert worrier. His family often joked with him that he should set up a business called "Worry Incorporated", where people could pay him to worry for them.
Probably the best time of his life were the twenty years he spent with his long time partner, Mary Jane Albert, who he loved dearly. He met her while driving through the Hampton toll booth on the New Hampshire Turnpike. Steve is survived by his sister, Sheryl Cohen, his brother Gary Cohen and sister-in-law, Carol Densmore, his niece, Asha Densmore, and nephew, Evan Markl. We were constantly amazed at Steve's resourcefulness and unconditional love. We will miss him sorely.
Sven was welcomed back at the Lakes Region Humane Society, where Steve originally adopted him. Hopefully, he has found another loving home. Any gifts in Steve's honor can be sent to them at:
