IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sheila Alequin
Kuehl
March 13, 1957 – August 8, 2023
Sheila Alequin Kuehl of Middleton, NH passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday August 8, 2023.
Born March 13, 1957 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, Sheila held various administrative positions at Crown Business Institute in Jamaica, NY and Anserphone WUI division in Queens, NY.
After moving her family to NH, Sheila took great pride in her work with children as a guest teacher and classroom aide at Union School, Paul School, and Milton Elementary School. In addition to Sheila's work in education, she continued to serve the community and St. Anthony's Church in Sanbornville, NH, as a Girl Scout Brownie troop leader, children's Christmas choir director, religious education teacher, parish council member, and member of the St. Anthony's adult choir.
Sheila had the privilege and honor to share her passion, enthusiasm, and joy with hundreds of young athletes as a volunteer for over 10 years with the Farmington 500 Boys & Girls Club. She served in various capacities including head coach and assistant coach, in boys and girls basketball, softball, baseball, volleyball, and soccer. In addition to volunteering with the 500 Club, Sheila was front and center for every single one of her three children's games throughout their entire junior high and high school athletic careers, on through her daughters' collegiate careers. Sheila was the official and unofficial team mom throughout those years, hosting numerous team dinners and providing unconditional love and support for all of the athletes. "Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger!"
"Mama K" was known and beloved by many students, she was a mother and caretaker to anyone who needed her, with the biggest heart. They knew she was a safe space and person to go to for guidance, love, clothes, food, a place to stay, and anything else that was needed.
Sheila had many incredible attributes, namely her unyielding strength and personal convictions. When she set her mind to doing something, no obstacle was going to get in her way. She was not only strong for herself, but provided strength to those around her and would sacrifice her own needs for her family and those she cared about. As steadfast and tough as Sheila was, and as fiercely as she loved her family, she was equally as sweet, adorable and precious in her words, jokes and actions with those she was closest to. Sheila was, at her core and especially in her younger years, a fun- loving, spirited and spontaneous woman. She was known as the "dancing queen" in her formative years, and had some truly unforgettable life experiences, such as the time she was pulled up on stage to sing and dance with Jay and the Americans as a teenager.
It was from this spontaneity and penchant for fun and adventure that she developed one of our dearest family traditions. Sheila and Chris were teenagers when they met and fell in love. Early on in their romance, Sheila decided to pack a bag for the both of them, secretly called Chris out of work and rented a vehicle all on a whim to take a spontaneous road trip together. No map, no plan, they started driving north and found their way in front of the ocean, at a beautiful little cottage in Cape Cod, MA. Thus the annual Kuehl family Cape Cod vacation was born, from two young teenagers, head over heels in love, seeking adventure and joy.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Sheila knew within minutes that her greatest passion in life was her family. Her unconditional love, devotion, and dedication to her three children and husband was unrivaled. Sheila was the most happy and fulfilled when her family was all under the same roof. Her greatest pleasure in life was simply being with her family whether it was lazy Sundays with the whole family watching tv in the California king sized bed or playing family games like 500 Rummy, charades, and Yahtzee. She also enjoyed organizing family movie excursions and other family outings to Prescott Park, mini golf, bowling and so much more. Her fondest memories were of those yearly family vacations to Cape Cod, most recently July 2023, enjoying the heated pool, working on puzzles, and watching the sunsets on the beach. But most of all, Sheila loved to spend time soaking up the sun and enjoying the serenity of her "paradise", the beautiful backyard full of plants and gorgeous lights her husband had created just for her.
Other pleasures included watching Acorn TV and all of her funny, quirky British tv shows that allowed her to travel to different time periods and venture to new places; singing along with her favorite musicals; enjoying the simplicity and wholesomeness of Hallmark movies; proudly cheering on her favorite team, the Celtics; giving and receiving love and kisses from her youngest "child", her beautiful husky/lab, Bella, and her grandpups, Ellie and Loki; and staying in contact with friends and family through social media.
Sheila is survived by her beautiful daughter, Jennifer Kuehl Spector (Somersworth Middle School Assistant Principal) and sweet husband Ben Spector of Somersworth, NH; adoring son, Erik Kuehl (Physical Education teacher) of North Conway, NH; precious daughter, Dr. Maria Kuehl (Exeter Hospital Attending Physician) and kind fiancé Matt Chouinard of Newmarket, NH; most devoted and hardworking husband of 42 years (together for 50 years this November), Christopher W. Kuehl of Middleton, NH. Sheila is also survived by her brother in law Charles Kuehl and his fiancée, Lori Patterson, of Kittery, ME along with several nieces and nephews.
Sheila is predeceased by her mom, Connie Alequin of Long Island, NY; her father Louis Alequin of Bronx, NY; her most loving Godfather Charles Calise of Queens, NY; and her in-laws Charles and Martha Kuehl of Maryland.
Sheila's greatest pride and joy were her three children and her deeply devoted and hardworking husband whom she leaves to love one another immensely and keep the faith!
