Obituary

Roberta "Bobby" Elaine (Powers) Lawson, 87, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.

Born on April 15, 1938, in Woburn, Massachusetts, Bobby was the beloved daughter of Rita and Ernest Powers. A lifelong nurturer and caregiver, she devoted her life to family, community, and faith. Bobby was the proud and loving mother of five children, four of whom survive her, along with five cherished grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister and numerous friends whose lives were touched by her kindness. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years-the love of her life-and by one of her sons.

Though she held a few payroll jobs throughout her life-including time at John Hancock, work in hotel housekeeping, and serving as a crossing guard for the local middle school-Bobby's proudest and most enduring role was that of a full-time mother and homemaker.

She gave generously of her time and talents, whether teaching Sunday School, leading Girl Scouts, or serving as a charter member of her town's Emergency Medical Team. Her dedication to church outreach led to countless friendships as she visited and supported those in need. Bobby was also an active member of the Eastern Star and the Hackmatack Playhouse community.

Bobby found great joy and fulfillment in gardening and canning, cultivating not just flowers and produce, but a lifestyle of self- sufficiency and care. Her pantry shelves were often lined with homemade preserves, and her gardens were a testament to her love of nature, patience, and quiet devotion.

Always willing to lend a helping hand, Bobby provided transportation for friends to church, medical appointments, hair salons, and errands. One of her most meaningful volunteer commitments was at the hospital where she also briefly worked- she considered it a privilege to give back to a place that served her community so deeply.

She embraced life with warmth and enthusiasm. Though she claimed to be a "master of none," she enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies and always found joy in learning, creating, and connecting with others.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral service. Her ashes will be scattered at sea, a final gesture reflecting her free and loving spirit.
