Robert “Bob” Smith, 68, of 437 Route 153 died on Monday May 18, 2026 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born on August 26, 1957 in Rochester, NH; the son of Robert and Beulah (Leighton) Smith.

Bob graduated from Spaulding High School in 1976 and immediately entered the workforce. He worked at Davidson Rubber/Textron/Collins & Aikman from 1989-2002 as an injection molding machine operator and material handler. He began his time as an employee of the Farmington School System in May 2003, starting as a custodian and quickly settling into a maintenance position that he enjoyed until his retirement in June 2025.

Bob was very family-oriented, always quick to offer support, a kind word and good advice.

Bob enjoyed watching the wildlife in his yard, even though it took a little while to get him to admit it. He was notorious for his practical jokes, causing more than a few gray hairs and many laughs. He enjoyed tinkering, which led to some side jobs as a handyman as well as some half-finished projects that would get shelved for a new, different project. A friend to all animals, big and small (except snakes), Bob could befriend any animal he came across; from the friendliest hound to the most temperamental house cats.

Bob looked forward to hosting his annual family reunion every year at his home. He worked diligently throughout the spring to prepare his yard for the event. He was very particular in how he kept his yard, from the lawn to the plants there. He was proud to create a peaceful and quiet space that could be used to host everyone he loved.

When his son, Daryl, entered scouting, Bob was quickly dragged into many years of selfless service with both Pack and Troop 188 of Farmington where he served as Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, Committee Chairman and many other positions throughout his time with them.

Bob is survived by his partner of 10 years, Judy Cope of Middleton, NH; his son Daryl Smith and wife Devon of Middleton, NH; his sisters Wilma Smith of Barrington, NH and Gail “Margie” Rand of Ossipee, NH; his brother Tom Smith and wife Patricia of Middlefield, OH as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and many good friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Robyn Smith, father Robert and mother Beulah, brother Carl “Kike” Smith and sister Patricia Chabot.

Flowers are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to The American Cancer Society.

Friends and family may call from 10:00 - 11:00am Friday May 29, 2026 at Peaslee Funeral Home in Farmington, NH. Interment will immediately follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington, NH. A Celebration of Life will take place after the interment at The Old Town Hall in Middleton, NH.
