Retired Chief Master Sergeant Robert Mathias Colpitt, 81, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday morning, July 24, 2011, following an extended illness.
Robert Colpitt was born in Carteret, New Jersey on June 6, 1930. He was a 25 year veteran of the Air Force (1948-1973), with an honored career. He was the youngest non-commissioned officer, promoted to Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force. He was Chief Master Sergeant of the 62nd Wing, Chief Master Sergeant of MAC Command, plus Chief Master Sergeant of the 45th Air Division, including tours in Korea and Vietnam. While living in California, he worked for the Aero-Space Division. During his military career, he was honored with many commendations and medals. He had lived in Farmington for the last 39 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he held a number of jobs, including, Interim Tax Collector in Farmington. With his great love of books, his last "job" was as proprietor of "The Bookery" on Main Street in Farmington.
He was a loving husband, father of seven, grandfather of 14, great grandfather and friend to all. He loved children, raising his own, plus raising several grandchildren and fostering a few others. He was a brilliant and wise man, who loved puzzles of all kinds and could do the New York Crossword Puzzle in under an hour.
Bob leaves his wife and soul mate of 63 and ½ years: Vivian Mae (Weston) Colpitt, son: Robert Michael and wife Jeanette (Garland) Colpitt, daughter: Deborah (Colpitt) LaBrecque, daughter: Elizabeth (Colpitt) and husband Darrell White and a daughter in law: Janice (Ryan) Colpitt, all of Farmington, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family and friends from all over the globe. He was predeceased by four sons: Wayne, Donald , Bryan and Timothy Colpitt.
Calling hours are Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Farmington, NH at 1:00 pm with Rev. Richard Rizzi, pastor, officiating.
