Obituary

Robert R. Clarke of New Durham, N H, passed away on May 11, 2012, at the age of 79, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease.

He was the only son of James and Claire Clark of Lynn, MA (both deceased). He is survived by his wife of 58 years Ruth, sons, Dennis and wife Holly of Manchester, NH, Steven and Gary and his wife Lila of Iva, SC and daughter Cindy and husband Scott of New Durham, NH sisters, Dorothy and husband John Nai, Rita Muchmore of Lynn, MA, Cynthia and husband Dick Leighton of North Andover, MA, Patricia and husband Patrick Brady of Lynn, MA, Linda Stevens of Lynn, MA. His oldest sister, Alice Cooke, of Nova Scotia (deceased).
8 Grandchildren; Matthew, Steven, Robbie, Justin, Matthew, Jason, Briana and Cassidy. 4 Step-Grandchildren; Barbara, Ashley, Brittany and Emily. And proud Great Grandfather of 13.

Robert was a 30 year vet with the US Navy and retired as a Senior Chief. A member of the American Legion until his death. Was received the 'Sailor of the Year' award in where he met the 'Duke , John Wayne, his true life hero, and the 'Career Service Award for Innovative Computer Management' on May 29, 1973 and multiple other awards during his career.
20 Years in the US Navy (not including 4 years in the Reserves before being married and 6 years after retirement – total of 30 years service)
— Started the San Diego Navel Training Center's Computer Center
— Won the Sailor of the Year award in the 1960's
— Navy Finance Center, Cleveland, OH
— Won an the 'Career Service Award for Innovative Computer Management ' from Federal Executive Board on May 29, 1973
— Retired as Senior Chief in 1974
— Member of the American Legion
— Member of FRA
— He is named on the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, DC

Private Career:
— K-Mart, Andover, MA (Area Manager)
— Dot's Lunch Restaurant in New Durham, NH (Host with the most!)
— Howard Johnson's Danvers, MA (Again another Host job – Looks like a pattern)
— Back to the 'The Station' (formerly Dot's Lunch for another gig as Host)
— Cedar post business - cutting and carrying product to market from the family home in New Durham, NH
— Retired when his Parkinson's Disease was diagnosed and he could no longer work the business

He was an avid Bowler and Golfer and loved John Wayne and musical films.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH with a funeral service on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Fr. Robert F. Cole, pastor of St. Katharine Drexel Church, officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at John Shirley Cemetery in New Durham, NH. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to the Rochester VNA, 178 Farmington Road, Rochester, NH 03867, www.YourVNA.org, and Parkinson's charities.
