Obituary

Robert L. Chadbourne, 88 of Maplewood, ME, passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2021.  He was born in Amesbury, MA on January 16, 1933.  He was the adopted son of Hazel (Libby) and Francis C. Chadbourne.  He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1951.  He served in the Air Force after graduation. He and Maxine (Mills) were married for 59 years.

Bob followed in his father's footsteps working for New England Telephone, retiring in 1990.  He was a member of the Congregational Church in Wakefield, NH, Grange #569 in Porter, ME, and the American Legion West-Day Post #123, Parsonsfield, ME.  He has belonged to many other organizations over the years.

Bob loved his family, neighbors, friends, and country.  He enjoyed working on his antique cars & truck.  He had restored many of them and could be seen at many car shows showing them off.  He was also talented in woodworking and seemed to be able to fix anything.  One friend said we had lost our MacGyver.  He will definitely be missed.

He is survived by his four children, Jana (Frank) Mayotte of Lebanon, ME, Duane Chadbourne of Sanbornville, NH, Dan (Cynthia) Chadbourne of Lynnfield, MA, and Valerie (Jeff) Ward of East Wakefield, NH. Seven grandchildren, Stephanie LaVigne, Allison Galvin, Adam Chadbourne, Jason, Robert, Devon and Lucas Ward. Seven great grandchildren, Alex Mayotte, Xander LaVigne, Michael Galvin IV, Christian, Scarlet, Ivy and Lily Ward.  His brother-in-laws, Dwight Mills, Thurman (Fern) Mills, Wayne (Sandy) Mills, and sister-in-laws Hilda (Forrest) Day, Frances & Marie Libby, many cousins, nieces & nephews.  He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Maxine (Mills), granddaughter Leighanne Mayotte & great grandson Duston Weidner, his four brothers, Lawrence, Franklin, Herbert & Albert Libby.

The family would like to thank the Visiting Nurses of Maine & Hospice of Southern Maine for all their help thru these last few months.  He always looked forward to seeing them every week.

There will be graveside services at Maplewood Cemetery, Maplewood, ME at a later date.  A celebration of life will also be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to American Legion West Day Post #123, PO Box 38, Parsonsfield, ME 04048.
