Union, New Hampshire:
Richard I. Joy, Sr., age 81, former longtime resident of Union, died March 14, 2017 at Rochester Manor.
Born in Union on June 8, 1935, a son of Mason and Mildred (Berry) Joy, he resided there all his life, most recently residing at Studley Home and Rochester Manor in Rochester.
Prior to retirement, he was self employed with Abbott Sanitation, in earlier years, he worked in construction and also at Spaulding Fibre Company.
Richard was a member of Unity Lodge No. 62 F.& A.M., a Mason for over 50 years, a member of the Grange in Union and a former volunteer Fireman with the Union Fire Department.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Widower of the late Sylvia Lorraine (Smith) Joy, he is survived by their 3 children: Richard I. Joy, Jr. and wife Robin Joy of Barrington, David A. Joy and longtime companion Annette Tomlinson of Union, Lorraine J. Bell and husband Richard Bell of Bethel, Maine, a sister: Hilda Downs of Union, 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service rescheduled due to weather on SUNDAY, April 2, 2017 at 1pm at the Union Congregational Church on Main Street in Union, NH with Rev. David Maleham, pastor, officiating. A time of reception will follow at the Union Resource Center on Main Street in Union. Cremation care by Peaslee Funeral Home of Farmington.
