Wakefield, NH

Rebecca Grace Eveleth, a proud longtime resident of Garney Rd in Wakefield NH, is now a "Free Bird". She is with the love of her life, William A. Eveleth, again. Becky and Bill reunited on February 8, 2025, after she had fought a longtime battle with COPD. She had been waiting almost 14 years to be with him again. They took off together while she was surrounded by all four of their children and two grandsons.

This is Rebecca's story so we will tell it how she wanted it. She was the oldest of 7 children born a rebel without a cause on September 22, 1955. The first Daughter of John and June(Bowles) Sykie this made her forever "the big sister". Growing up she lived in Belmont and Weirs Beach until the boardwalk caught fire and they then settled in Alton NH. She graduated Alton High School early in 1972 with the junior class after needing only one English credit that year.

She was very proud of her first job as a legal secretary in Farmington NH.  Farmington is where she met Bill in 1977. They took off to Florida to live on a boat and when it sank they came back to NH.  After proudly having one child out of wedlock and pregnant with another they were married on April 4, 1980, in a hasty hippie ceremony where she refused to wear a wedding dress because he wouldn't take off his hat. (If anyone has pictures of that her kids would love to see those). Both Becky and Bill were very proud parents and they had 4 children together, and in a completely unique way, she delivered the twins at home in 1982 on Witchtrot Rd in Wakefield NH. They moved to Garney Rd later that year and established their home. Becky worked as a waitress off and on at nights when her kids were young and she supported Bill with his boat business. They proudly owned a marina together in the 90's and after they continued private boat repairs and maintenance, for a few favorite customers….Those who paid! Those loyal customers were appreciative of their passion, knowledge, and loyalty to wooden boat restoration. Their hard work ethic was admirable. Not always recognizable from their ups and downs, they had a constant drive to keep a roof over their heads, food on the table and  teach their kids right from wrong. Their teamwork was always truly amazing, comedic and an excellent display of love that always showed a healthy give and take that their kids and many others learned from.

She had the most beautiful handwriting and loved spelling words and knowing their exact definitions. This led to many years of intense scrabble games with one of her best friends in life, Charlene, and a passion to complete every crossword puzzle out there.

She loved music, books, her dogs, and walking with a passion. Her kids remember multiple crates of albums, reading stories to them when the power went out, years of puppy liters from beloved dogs, and her fast strut! RE-BECCA as her loving husband of 30 years called her, was small but mighty, thinking she was always seven feet tall she was at her maximum height in the 90's, being a proud 4'10 1/4"; don't forget the quarter! She always said that having four kids drove her into the ground.

Always a fan of the left-handed cigarette and camels, she and Bill proudly quit smoking camels cold turkey after a health scare in 2001.
Diagnosed with COPD in 2002, this marked the beginning of her battle for breathing. That was also the year that they became the best grandparents in the world. So they started fighting then. She and Bill enjoyed every moment together and they had so many friends! Being that cool, many awesome people came in and out of their lives. Most were life long and one of the greatest treasures to her was a "good friend".

After losing (her) Willy, suddenly in 2011, it took all the air out of her and she was not able to fight or breathe fully again.  Refusing to quit thru that heartbreak Becky fought hard and lived her life exactly how she wanted from then on. With the support of her kids and friends, she lived without approval or apologies to anyone. Becky loved a good time and she had as many as she could. She may have been limited over the years, however, she was always determined to go out and make good use of her Kohl's cash and coupons, Going between Walmart for her medication and to her favorite place, Market Basket, she was the electric cart queen. She would tell you to put them back, charge them, and don't park on a handicap spot. Use your coupons and check your sales flyers so you can save money.  She always encouraged people to eat ,drink and partake together because she knew that long-time memories are made in small moments.  She loved her independence.

After over 46 years she peacefully gave up the responsibility of parenting and left her kids to fend for themselves. Erik Eveleth of Wakefield NH, Brooke (Swan) Swanson of Sanbornton NH, Samantha (Jeremiah) Morrill of Ossipee NH, Samuel Eveleth and partner Sarah Brown of Acton ME, and as she would always say "last but not least" her favorite (honorary) child Corey (Gina) Meroski of Wakefield NH.
Grandsons Caleb Morrill of Ossipee NH, Burton Swanson of Sanbornton NH,  and Aidan Kelly of Wolfeboro NH. Siblings are Marcia Rouillard, Carroll NH, John Sykie JR of Charlestown NH, Juanita Baker of Va, Darren Sykie of Greenland NH,  and a ridiculous amount of cousins, nieces, nephews and then add their kids, and their kids kids. She leaves behind so many others who she had her own unique relationship with as well.
Gone too soon, she was left prior by her husband William Eveleth, both parents John and June Sykie, sister Peggy Baud of Wakefield NH, brother David Sykie of Gilmanton NH, and many of her closet dearest friends. Imagine the surprise and cheering for her getting all the way up the stairway to heaven on her own without a hose.

In true Becky fashion, there will be nothing sad but instead a celebration in honor of her to take place at the Greater Wakefield Resource Center, 254 Main Street in Union, NH  on February 23, 2025, 1-4:30 pm. Please come share memories, laughs and if you'd like a dish. Becky would want you to come as you are, and stay as little, or long as you'd like.  She wouldn't want you to worry about flowers, she would say go buy yourself something nice like a set of Pajamas or sheets, stop at dispensary to get some gummies or go have a drink (their go too was a cold one and a rolled one), whatever you'd like, you deserve it and it will make you feel better.

Becky's kids would express a sincere Thank You to all of the doctors and nursing staff who have cared for her over the years, we know she wasn't always nice or happy to be there and it really must have made it hard for you, and you all gave her such good care but she would be happy to let you all know that she won't be coming back.
