Pearl Winfred Bowden of Prospect St. Farmington, NH passed away Monday February 9, 2015 at 94 years of age surrounded by his family. He was born January 30, 1921 in Penobscot, Me., the son of Roscoe and Clydia Richardson Bowden.
His family moved to Farmington in Jan. of 1928 and he attended local schools there. He was a World War ll veteran having served with the U S Army's Coastal Artillery in the Panama Canal Zone and on the Aleutian Islands for more than 3 years. He was one of 7 sons who served during the war, there is a plaque and portrait honoring them in the Wright Museum. He was very pleased to have visited the World War Two Memorial in Washington, DC
After High School Pearl worked in a shoe factory in Farmington. After the war he found employment with Spaulding Fiber Corp. working in the Milton and North Rochester plants 44 years until retirement.
He celebrated 53 years of marriage with his wife, Hazel Tilton, who passed away in 1997. They lived in West Lebanon, Me. over 30 years and moved to Farmington in 1972. He kept busy with hobbies such as large gardens, wood crafts, raising chickens and selling eggs, growing mushrooms and making wine. He planted fruit trees and harvested lots of apples and peaches. He worked into his nineties in his raised bed gardens, he was a jack of all trades. He also enjoyed spending his time with the Farmington Historical Society, the VFW and the Farmington Congregational Church. He was a man of honor and integrity, a great Dad and Grandfather.
Members of his family include son James and wife Sandra Bowden of Rochester, son William and wife Sonia Bowden of Brownfield, Me., daughter Sandra and husband Charles DiPrizio Jr. of Middleton and daughter Shirley and husband James Eaton of New Durham. Three grandsons, James and Diana Bowden of Barrington, Michael and Cheryl Bowden of Sanbornville and Mark and Sarah Canney of Rochester. Five granddaughters, Bonnie Bowden of Rochester, Sandra and Daniel Bellemore of New Durham, Stacy Eaton of Farmington, Diane and John Sales of Philadelphia, Pa. and Brittany Bowden and Jake Pingree of Brownfield, Me.
He has 9 great-grandchildren, Cody Bowden and Marissa Latvis, Abigail and Quade Miller, James Bowden, Jr., Olivia Bellemore, Allison Bellemore, Sophia Canney, Jack Canney, Ravinder Sales and Arabella Pingree. Two great great-grandchildren, Kylie Bowden and Sophia Bowden. He also has step-grandchildren, Angelina MacDonald, Lee MacDonald and Chantel Valliancourt.
Pearl was predeceased by his wife Hazel, his parents and all of his 13 siblings. He is survived by sister-in-law Roberta Bowden, Salina, Kansas.
A special Thank You to our brother Bill and his wife Sonia for being Dad's Primary care giver having taken their retirement to come live with Dad for a year and a half.
Calling hours are 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Sunday February 15, 2015 at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH, with a service at 3pm. Burial will be in the Spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Farmington.
Memorial contributions to Cornerstone VNA/Hospice, 178 Farmington Road, Rochester, NH 03867, will be appreciated and flowers are acceptable.
