Patricia Margaret (Hampson) Nute, formerly of Farmington and Milton, NH, died on August 24, 2012 at Riverside Rest Home after a period of failing health.
Pat and her twin sister "Peggy" Hampson were born in Dulwich, England on January 21, 1924, the youngest of six children born to Joshua and Violet Hampson. At the age of 14 she was one of thousands of children evacuated to the safety of the English countryside on the eve of World War II, where she went to Tetworth School. Later, she moved back to London and began a job as secretary at the British Ministry of Information – just in time for the "Blitz" and the fire bombing of London. She met and fell in love with a Major in the US Army, Eugene F. Nute that was stationed in London. They married on February 22, 1945 at All Saints Anglican Church in West Norwood, London.
It was hard for her to leave England, but they moved back to Farmington, NH , then lived in Beverly , Mass while Gene enrolled in Boston University Law School and completed his studies to become an attorney. Pat and Gene moved back to Farmington, NH to raise a family and practice law until Eugene's retirement in 1988.
Pat maintained a gracious and loving home, raised three children and enjoyed life and gardening on their Christian Ridge Farm home. She was a member of the Farmington Congregational Church and choir, and later the Nute Chapel in Milton, NH. and volunteered with the Visiting Nurses Assoc. She had a close circle of friends and supported her husband and children in their endeavors with cheerfulness and energy. Always frugal and resourceful, Pat could fix almost anything, canned and preserved food grown in her gardens and was a fine seamstress. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Patricia was predeceased by her husband, Eugene in 2009.
Mrs. Nute is survived by Stephanie T. Nute and her husband, Jimmy Hicks of Portland, Oregon; Jonathan W. Nute and his wife, Anne Bryant Nute of Canterbury, NH; Elizabeth Nute Bridges and her husband Robert Bridges of Milton, NH; two grandchildren, Jordan Hicks and wife Tara (and great granddaughter Erica Jane Hicks); and Sarah Nute of Canterbury, NH, as well as numerous nieces and nephews here and in England.
The family will gather at a later date to celebrate her life on Nute Ridge. Arrangements by Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH, to express condolences, please visit: www.peasleefuneralhome.com
