Obituary

With great sadness, the family of Nancy Elaine Horne, 82, of Port Charlotte, Florida, announces her passing on September 13, 2025. She was surrounded by her son Dale, daughter-in-law Michelle, and granddaughter Vicki.

Nancy was born on April 20,1943, in Richmond, Maine, to Leona Naso and Robert Wheeler. She is survived by four siblings and their spouses: Barbara and Don Rainey, Robert and Susan Wheeler, Charles and Priscilla Wheeler, and Donna and Fred Chagnon. She was predeceased by her sisters Carol Ann Wheeler and Joyce Wilson.

A proud graduate of Pittsfield High School, Nancy was a standout athlete in basketball, softball, and a champion snowshoe racer. She believed, "A life without sports was no life at all."   Nancy carried this passion throughout her life, enjoying water sports at camp in Gardiner, Maine, scuba diving off the coasts of Maine and New Hampshire, and actively participating in bowling, softball, and golf leagues well into retirement. She earned recognition for her achievements, for several hole-in-ones at Nippo Lake Golf Club and Maple Leaf Golf & Country Club.

After high school, Nancy moved to Rochester, New Hampshire, where she worked as a head lifeguard, swim instructor, tax collector, and at General Electric.

She raised three children and is survived by Pamela and Bob Hajjar, Dale and Michelle Horne, and was predeceased by her son Alan Horne, who is survived by his wife, Kathy Horne. Nancy was adored by her six grandchildren: Scott Sanders, Victoria Sanders, Mathew Horne, Kaethe Hamilton, Brittany Beaulieu, and Jeffrey Horne, and by her six great-grandchildren, whose lives she touched.

Later in life, Nancy spent three years in North Carolina before settling into retirement in her beloved warm paradise of Port Charlotte, Florida. There, she embraced life fully—playing golf in both women's and couples' leagues, enjoying card games, hosting family visits, and sharing weekly Friday night dinners and Saturday morning breakfasts with close friends.

A private family ceremony will be held to celebrate Nancy's remarkable life.
