Obituary

Middleton, NH

Michael Rolland Joy of Middleton, New Hampshire, died unexpectedly, at the age of 49, on February 9, 2022 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA, from complications of brain cancer.

Mike was born in Lancaster, NH; the son of Nancy A. Joy and Leslie E. Joy. He was raised and educated in Groveton, NH, where he lived his childhood years. He was a graduate of Groveton High School, Class of 1991. Following high school Mike earned his BA from UNH in 1996. He pursued a Law Enforcement career serving as a police officer in Wakefield, Middleton, and New Durham. Mike continued to serve his community serving at the Carroll County Sherriff's Office. In July of 2018 Mike accepted a position working for Perspecta (now Peraton) as a special investigator performing federal security clearance backgrounds.

Mike donated much time through the years to the Farmington Fish and Game Club, helping with outdoor events and big game dinners. He was an accomplished angler and woodsman. He had the heart of a mountain man and enjoyed living in his log cabin and roaming the inner woodland slopes of Rand, Copple Crown, and Kimball Mountains.

In his early years Mike spent much of his time during the summer with his grandparents Gladys and Lester Joy, and Uncle Moe; preparing the fields for growing blueberries, then helping with the harvests.

Mike had a zest for life and a good sense of humor with an unforgettable laugh. He had a long list of friends and each friendship he held dear. He would want to be remembered in the places he most enjoyed— think of Mike when you are fishing, hiking or hunting in the mountains or on a lake kayaking.
Mike will be greatly missed by his girlfriend: Patricia Catalano (Her Children: Nicholas Catalano, Kaitlyn Catalano)
His parents: Leslie & Nancy Joy
His brother & sister-in-law: George & Billi Joy
Nephew: Connor Joy
Aunts and Uncles: Malcolm Joy, John & Sheri Pageau, James & Linda Pageau, Mary Pageau, J.D. & Jean (Pageau) Wininger, Joan Pageau and many cousins.
