Obituary

Farmington, NH
Maynard Anson Morgan, 98, of Farmington, NH went home to be with Jesus on January 17, 2021 with his family at his side. He was a lifetime believer in Christ, our Lord, and would teach everyone about his abundant faith. Maynard lived his devotion daily, getting up early before the start of his day to sing, pray and read his Bible. He loved reading the Word and he had many verses that he liked, but his most favorite verse was John 3:16! Maynard's devotion was also demonstrated by his active participation in the church as an ordained minister, his many charitable works and donations, and his caring and compassion for all. He found delight in both his faith and his family.
Maynard was born on March 21, 1922 in Springvale Maine to the late Harry Dean Morgan and the late Eleanor (Wentworth) Morgan as one of 13 children. As a child, he was raised in both Maine and New Hampshire, enjoying hunting and fishing with his brothers. He would fondly relay stories about his times as a child climbing trees and helping tend the animals around the farm with his siblings. Maynard left the Wolfeboro High School in Wolfeboro NH in 1937 after completing the 9th grade. He began working in Maybury shoe shop in Rochester NH, to help his mother support his younger siblings. He would sometimes hitchhike all the way from Wolfeboro NH to go to work. It was there in Maybury Shoe he met the love of his life, Florence Jeanette Brown.
Maynard was inducted into the United States Army in December 1942. Later on that month he entered into active duty. He proudly served his country, both stateside and abroad. Maynard served most of his time overseas as a medic, being stationed in New Caledonia, Okinawa and Korea. While home on leave, on the 29th of September 1943, Maynard and Florence wed.
Maynard returned home to Rochester NH in 1946 to his new bride and went back to work at Maybury shoe. Maynard remained living with Florence and her parents and in 1948, started their own family. A few short years later, they expanded their family and moved to Milton. Throughout Maynard's lifetime he worked at many of the shoe shops around the area. He could also be found digging and planting in his garden. Maynard would dig his garden by hand and had done it well into his 90's. Over the years, his children and many grandchildren would join him in the garden; learning how to tend the plants and eating peas and strawberries right from the source. Maynard passed down this love for gardening to his children and grandchildren. Another legacy that he handed down was his love for the Lord. He could be found nurturing these spiritual roots teaching Sunday school to his grandchildren and many others. Maynard would also lead the song services in many of the churches he attended in the area. He was recently a member of the church, Milton Christian Fellowship, under Senior Pastor Jim Weeden. Maynard was a great cook but was known especially well for making the best baked beans and peanut butter fudge anywhere! Maynard resided in the same Milton apartment where he raised his family for 62 years; moving in with one of his granddaughters' and her husband for only 3 short months before being called home to the Lord.
Maynard is predeceased by his wife Florence of 54 years, 12 siblings, and children Jeffrey Morgan and Lorna Gray. He is also predeceased by 2 grandsons, Bradford Gray and Peter LeClair and 1 great grandson Jeffrey Trudeau Jr. Maynard is survived by his son Bradley and daughters, Cynthia Garyait and Peggy (Adam) Maxfield. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, several extended family members, as well as many nieces, and nephews. Maynard is also survived by sister in laws Connie (Elliott) Morgan and Barbara (Brown) Leclerc. No words can ever fully express the bountiful impact that this man of God had on the world. He will forever be missed and loved by his entire family and his extended church community. He touched countless lives throughout his many years, and his legacy will live on forever.
