Maurice A. Hatch passed away at his home in Wakefield, NH, unexpectedly on Monday, November 29 th . He was 88. His family takes comfort knowing that he is reunited with his wife Ann in heaven. They had been married for 59 years, raising two sons and supporting the local communities where they resided.
Maurice was born and raised in Sanford, ME, graduating from Sanford High School. In his teen years he discovered the hard but rewarding work of farming at his cousin Leary's Dairy Farm in Farmington, NH. Maurice attended UNH and received his degree in Agricultural Science. He remained employed at UNH for many years, managing operations at the UNH Dairy Farm.
While working at UNH, Maurice met the love of his life, Ann Paul. They were married and settled in Lee, NH. Besides being a loving husband and providing father, Maurice also supported the community, giving countless hours to the Lee Volunteer Fire Dept. Maurice rose through the ranks to eventually become fire chief and forest fire warden. He was always proud that his two sons followed in his footsteps in joining the fire service.
Maurice continued his journey in returning to UNH as a public safety dispatcher, managing emergency calls for the police, fire and EMS agencies in Durham and the surrounding communities. Upon his retirement from UNH, Maurice and Ann moved to Wakefield, NH and enjoyed many more happy years together. Both were active in the First Congregational Church of Wakefield.
Maurice also enjoyed working again on the family farm, and enjoyed being on his tractor tending to the hay fields and other chores. Maurice and Ann also enjoyed traveling throughout northern New England, visiting historic sites, and they particularly enjoyed many weekends in Boothbay Harbor, ME.
Maurice was predeceased by his wife Ann in 2017. He leaves behind two sons, Paul Hatch of Wakefield, NH and Warren Hatch Sr of Lee, NH. He also had two grandchildren, Warren Jr of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Julia of Ossipee, NH; and also one great grandson, Bentley of Ossipee.
Calling hours will be held at the Peaslee Funeral Home, 2079 Wakefield Road, in Sanbornville, NH on Friday December 3 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 2718 Wakefield Road in Wakefield, on Saturday December 4 at 1:00 PM with burial to follow at the Lovell Lake Cemetery in Sanbornville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of NH & MA ( www.alz.org ) or to the American Diabetes Association ( www.diabetes.org ).
