Obituary
DOVER – Maude P. Shapleigh, 100, formerly of Farmington, NH, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation (Dover Rehab) in Dover, NH.
Born March 1, 1912, in Wakefield, MA, the daughter of Paul and Rachel (Parker) Merrill, she was the widow of John Shapleigh. She attended school in Farmington. Her first job was playing piano for the silent movies in Farmington and she also waitressed at several local restaurants. She and John owned and operated Judy Ann Stables in Old Orchard Beach, Maine for twenty-three years. Later in life, she was a care-giver for many elderly clients, retiring at age 84.
She was pre-deceased by four infants from her first marriage to Melvin "Bing" Stevens, and survived by their three children, Charlotte Lessard, Farmington, NH, Shirley O'Neil and Morey Garland, Farmington, NH, and C. Paul Stevens and wife Jane, of Springvale, ME.
Survivors also include grandchildren, Mikel P. Stevens Sr. and wife Maria, Margaret "Peggy" Perkins, and husband Dan, Craig Stevens and wife Ellen, Brian Lessard, Rozalind "Roza" Benoit and husband Lee, Laurice Dunning and husband Bill, Risa Grace and husband Jeff, Sue Sherwood and husband Mike, Dorri McClintock and husband Mark, and step-grandchildren, Roger Howard, Leslie Packard and husband Bob, Scott Garland and partner Jenn Koehler and their families, including fifteen great-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren.
She also leaves a sister-in-law, Alice Merrill, former sister-in-law Marion Stevens, former grandson-in-law, Maynard Ellingwood, and wife Agnes, former granddaughter-in-law, Wanda Lessard, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends throughout the years, and especially those who cared for her during the last years of her life.
Calling hours are 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, November 30th, at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central St, Farmington, NH. Funeral service is 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 1st, at the First Free Will Baptist Church on Depot St, New Durham, NH, Pastor James Nason, officiating.
