Mary Louise Monnat

Sanbornville, New Hampshire:

Mary Louise (Morrison) Monnat, 91, of Doc Morrison Rd on Great East Lake, died at home on Friday, September 25, 2026 after complications from heart failure.

One of five children and the youngest daughter of Dr. Roger H. Morrison and Mary Louise (Corson) Morrison, Mary Lou grew up in Farmington and spent each summer at the family’s Camp Dodavah.

She was one of twenty-five Farmington HS graduates in 1953; with enduring life-long friendships, “we were just like family”. She went on to nursing school at Lynn (MA) Hospital; afterwards, she and a friend drove her new car, Bessy, to St. Petersburg FL to work at Mound Park Hospital. It was there, on St. Patrick’s Day, she met her sailor husband, Rodney. Spending their early years in FL, the couple eventually moved back to NH to care for Mary Lou’s aging parents. They were blessed to have sixty adventurous years together before Rod’s passing in 2019.

Active in her community –Mary Lou served on the town ambulance corp, the school board, and attended St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She was employed by the Farmington School District for the majority of her nursing career before she and Rod retired to Great East. She was proudly strong willed, opinionated and practical- reflecting her New England roots that included many early settlers, including the Mayflower puritans. She was a loyal mother, grandmother, friend and matriarch of Great East’s West Shore. A devoted network of family and friends enabled her to stay strong and independent until the end. It was her wish for no funeral service, however, a celebration in her honor will be held at her home later this autumn. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Farmington. 

She is survived by her sister, Barbara (Morrison) Johnston, of Canandaigua NY, son Brian (Melanie) Monnat of Acton ME, daughter Deborah (Eric) Monnat-White of Sullivan NH, grandson Ryan (Errin) White of Effingham, and great grand children Harrison, Eliza, and Ellis White, many loving nieces and nephews, and a beloved circle of close friends.
