Mary Pauline (Stevens) Chesley Flewelling, 92, passed away peacefully May 25, 2012 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born February 4, 1920 in a Middleton farmhouse, she was the daughter of Byron H. and Louise (Weber) Stevens. After graduating from Nute High School in 1937, she moved to Farmington - the town she would call home for most of her life.
During WWII, she did her part for the war effort by operating a turret lathe at the Navy Yard in Somersworth. She also worked as a fancy stitcher in local shoe factories.
She was a devoted wife to Fred H. Chesley, from the day they married in 1944, until the blizzardy night he died in 1994.
A year later, lifelong friend Gerald Flewelling wooed and wed her, and they spent a golden decade together in Loudon Ridge and Florida, from 1995 until he passed in 2005. She called him her Prince, and missed him every day of these last seven years.
Mary was a fervent believer, and long-time member of the Advent Christian Church. Without fail, she prayed for each member of her large extended family every day. She loved her family ardently. An accomplished cook, she delighted in feeding both family and friends like kings, at every opportunity. Her tender and caring nature made her a wonderful gardener - she loved "getting her hands dirty", and her vegetable and flower gardens were always lush. She played the organ beautifully.
She was predeceased by two of her sons, Alan Chesley and James Chesley, and by three brothers - John Stevens, George Stevens, and Earl Stevens. She is survived by her daughter Sharon and husband James Langis of Farmington, her son Gary and wife Christine Chesley of Middleton, 10 grandchilden: Christopher Chesley, Darin Chesley, Amy Eldridge, Jeffrey Langis, Jill Moulton, Jamie DiPrizio, Michael Chesley, Matthew Chesley, Anna Merhalski and Nathan Chesley; 11 great grandchildren; her daughter in laws Donna True and Debbie Green; several nieces and nephews; and the family of her late husband Gerald Flewelling.
Calling hours are Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at Peaslee Funeral Home: 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH.
A private service will be at Pine Grove Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Family Bible Church in Loudon, NH.
