Mary Ann Antonsson (née Mullen)
January 23, 1948 – February 5, 2026
Ann Antonsson of Alton, NH passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She was surrounded by love, her devoted daughter Aimee and family by her side. Born on January 23, 1948, Ann grew up in Wilmette, Illinois and attended Saint Francis Xavier grade school and Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart high school. In high school Ann played basketball and did fashion modeling as well. Always very close with her parents and siblings, Ann was also very artistic and skilled at sewing and crafting. She would fondly recant working as an usher for Andy Frain Services with her older brother Chris and twin brother, Brian – seeing many concerts (including The Beatles!), forming a life-long love for music.
After high school, Ann traveled west to attend San Francisco College for Women at Lone Mountain, during the height of the counterculture revolution and the Summer of Love era. She graduated with the Class of 1970 and has maintained a close-knit group of beloved friends for over 50 years. It was also in San Francisco where Ann first met her husband, Frank while working as an accountant for Saturday Review Magazine. They later connected again and began their life together, eventually marrying on November 26, 1977 in Albuquerque, NM. Their partnership was defined by curiosity and a deep devotion to one another.
Throughout their marriage, Ann and Frank shared an adventurous spirit, working and living in several states including Montana, New Mexico, and Sacramento, CA, where they eventually put down roots and raised their family. New Mexico held a particularly special place in Ann’s heart, and they returned often as a family. Its colors, flavors, and textures influenced both her vibrant cooking and the warm, distinctive style of her home. She and Frank were both avid gardeners, animal lovers, enthusiastic travelers and later in life, Ann went back to school for interior design, further expressing her creativity and eye for beauty. Their home was widely admired for being both beautiful and deeply welcoming – a reflection of her personality and care.
Professionally, Ann built a steady career as an accountant. She worked in corporate roles in the 80’s for Cable Data and later for Interpacific Sales Company, the business she helped run alongside Frank. She retired in her early sixties, allowing her to devote more time to family, friends, passions, and pursuits she loved most.
Ann was deeply involved in her community. She served on the school board and was a longtime Girl Scouts leader, roles that reflected her commitment to mentorship, and connection. She was generous with her time and genuinely interested in the lives of others, qualities that made her a trusted presence and a natural leader. A gifted cook and gracious host, Ann loved bringing people together around the table - always eager to host the holidays or a family birthday celebration. Her grandchildren were her joy and were an incredibly important part of her life – she was affectionately known as Granny Annie.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Antonsson; her parents, Mary Florence McKenna Mullen and John C. Mullen; and her grandson, Joshua Black.
She is survived by her daughter, Aimee (Brett) Tiede, her siblings Christopher (Maggie) Mullen, twin brother Brian (Irene) Mullen, Jane Mullen, Mari Mullen, and Michael Mullen; her stepdaughter, Christina Antonsson; her grandchildren Jessalyn Black, Charlie Nugent, and Colin Nugent; and her many beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared.
