Obituary

Louis Gino Mangiafico, 80, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 29th.

Born in Sicily, Italy in 1941, Louis moved to New Britain, CT when he was 17 years old, and became a United States citizen. He was an electrical engineer (graduated from Northeastern University), and worked for Raytheon early in his career, before working for the Department of Defense for a number of years. This allowed him to move overseas with his family, where he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany and Naples, Italy.

He returned to the United States and worked for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (formerly NUSC) in New London, CT, living in Colchester, CT until his retirement in 1996. He also enjoyed coaching soccer and working on his garden. Louis then moved back to Augusta, Sicily with his wife to enjoy retirement, tending to his garden and trees, traveling, and visiting with family.

He is survived by his wife Gail, married for 49+ years, sons Robert and his wife Christine of Hebron, CT, Anthony and his wife Cassandra of Sanbornville, NH, and Andrew and his wife Tanya of Tolland, CT. He is also survived by his brother Vincenzo and his wife Maria of New Britain, CT, sister Connie of Augusta, Sicily, his sister-in-law Santina of New Britain, CT, his 7 grandchildren - Hannah, Dominic, Joseph, Derik, Dalton, Hunter, and Lukas, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Due to current covid concerns, services will be private for immediate family only. A larger celebration of his life will be held in the spring/summer of 2022.
