Obituary

ALTON – Louie Otis Perkins, Sr. of Powdermill Road, died on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at home with his children and family by his side at the age of 95.

Born on January 18, 1928, in Acton, Maine, his family moved to Farmington where he grew up. He joined the Air Force in 1946 where he served his country as an AP Power Plat Mechanic in World War II – Pacific. At the time of his discharge in 1948, his rank was of a Sargent. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan.

Louie married Virginia Louise Melanson February 12, 1949, and were happily married until her passing on October 13, 2011. Living in Manchester while raising their family, he worked for Auclair Trucking Co. until his retirement in 1980. After moving to Alton, he worked as a custodian for Alton Central School for ten years, where he retired once again.

Louie loved hunting and reading was a passion. He would collect empty cans and crush them for recycling as well as recycling used wiring to keep it out of landfills. He loved spending time with family and friends.

Louie is survived by his children, Judy Thibeault of Alton, Deborah Brown, and husband Dale of Franklin, Lorna Pray and husband David of Manchester, Louie Perkins, Jr. and wife Linda of Alton, and Lloyd Perkins and wife Jessica of Tamworth. He was blessed with fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great, great-granddaughter, as well as nieces and a nephew. He is predeceased by his parents, Lester and stepmother Mildred Elliott Perkins, his mother Lizzie Lord Perkins, brothers, Clarence and George Perkins, Sr., and sister Voilet Perkins.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, December 8, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH. Graveside service will take place on Thursday August 15, 2024, 2pm at New Riverside Cemetery in Alton, NH.

In lieu of flowers, Louie's wishes were for donations to be made in his memory to Quantico Injured Military Sportsmen Association (QIMSA), 39 Dawson Drive, Fredericksburg, VA 22405.
