IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Loran E.
Smith
May 29, 1936 – August 12, 2023
Loran E. Smith of Rochester NH passed away in his home surrounded by love on August 12, 2023.
Loran was born May 29th, 1936, in Somerville, MA. His family moved to New Durham, NH in 1953, where he met Nancy Pearson, the love of his life, and wife of 63 years. Together, Loran and Nancy provided a wonderful environment and a stellar example of love and life to their children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.
Loran had a passion for life. He was well known for his warm personality, sense of humor, strong work ethic, love for family and working up a sweat on the dance floor. Creative and handy, he reveled in spending time in his woodworking shop crafting anything from full-size furniture to intricate wooden toys out of pine. One of his greatest pleasures was witnessing the excitement and joy his toys brought to children as he freely gave away hundreds of his hand-made toys at Halloween or at various local establishments. He also enjoyed sports, whether it be proudly cheering for his children and grandchildren from the sidelines or watching the New England Patriots or Boston Red Sox at home with an occasional "toddy".
Loran joined the New Hampshire Army Reserves in July of 1959 and was honorably discharged as a Specialist Fifth Class from Company D, 364th Engineer Battalion, in October of 1964; a service he was very proud of and a source of inspiration to two of his sons who would later go on to serve in the military.
He worked for 32 years at Diprizio Lumber in Middleton, NH and 28 years at Water Industries in Alton, NH. His wonderful personality, industry knowledge and loyalty earned the respect of customers and colleagues alike.
Loran was predeceased by his father, Charles, mother, Marion, brother, Stanley, and sister, Debra.
Loran leaves behind his loving family including wife, Nancy, brother, Charles, sister, Delphine, children, Loran, Stephen, Lorna and Karl, daughter in-laws, Karol, Ginger and Sarah, grandchildren, Meaghan, Maxwell, Kyle, Mitchell, Craig, Aaron, Samuel, Grace, and Jack, and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lily, and Noah.
Words cannot express how much he will be missed.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Cornerstone VNA of Rochester for their exceptional care and compassion. The family will have a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
