Obituary

UNION — Lester E. Joy, 96, of Chapel Street, died Feb. 10, 2010 at Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee.

Born March 17, 1913 in Union, son of the late Frank and Alice (Kimball) Joy, he was raised there, went to school in a two-room schoolhouse in Union, then completed high school at Nute High School in Milton.

In 1938 he married Gladys E. Horn and lived in Union ever since. Lester is remembered as a hard worker, avid hunter and fisherman, a great storyteller and one who loved family and friends. Just last summer at 96 he was splitting wood, picking blueberries and went fishing, when he caught a large fish — the fish tale he told over and over recently.

He is survived by his two sons Malcolm Joy, and Leslie and wife Nancy Joy; two grandsons, Michael Joy, and George Joy and wife Billi Joy; and his great grandson, Connor Joy; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Marion Wentworth, second wife, Gladys Horn; his son, George Eugene Joy; sisters Annette Dunnells and Ida Joy, and brothers Nelson, Lawrence, Mason, Abbott and Oscar Joy.

If desired, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Union Congregational Church, PO Box 233, Union, NH 03887.

There will be a calling hour at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, with a short memorial service at 2 p.m. at Peaslee Funeral Home, 2079 Wakefield Road, Sanbornville, NH.
