Leon Tallant Dodge, Jr., 84, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 peacefully at his home.
Tallant was born on April 17, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio, son of Leon T. Dodge, Sr. and Audrey Claire (Johnson). He moved to Alton, NH in 1934. A graduate of Alton High School, class of 1950 he then attended the University of New Hampshire. On October 4, 1952 he married his high school sweetheart, G. Ethel Howe.
He was employed at Bouila-Gorrell Lumber Company, and Aetna Pumps. While employed full time, he was also the owner of J. Jones & Son. Upon his retirement he worked part time for Alton Home and Lumber and began a clock repair business, Hands of Time. In addition to clock collecting, his other interests were racing cars on the ice in Alton Bay, playing golf, listening to jazz and big band music, baking, flea markets, antiques, and spending time with his family.
Tallant served the town Alton as a volunteer fireman, Budget Committee member, and Little League coach. He was also a Past Master of the Winnipisaukee Lodge #75, and Past Patron of Alpha Chapter #47 OES.
He was pre-deceased by his wife of 52 years, G. Ethel Dodge and his sister, Deborah Moulton.
Surviving are his children Louise Watkin of Broomall, PA, David Dodge of Alton, Mark & Elaine Dodge of Laconia, and Debra & Donald Nugent of Belmont, eight grandchildren, Dawn Miller, Danielle Miller, Nathan Dodge, Samantha Dodge, Curtis Dodge, Gretchen Dodge, Audrey Dodge, and Ian Nugent, 14 great grandchildren, and two great-great children, his sister, Jeanenne Goodrich, and his brother, Douglas Dodge. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, close friends, and special neighbors.
"Tal" had a wonderful sense of humor and true Yankee wit. He had a deep love for his family.
Graveside services to be held at New Riverside Cemetery in Alton on Friday, April 29th at 1:00, with fellowship to follow at the Masonic Lodge, Alton.
