IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence A.
Wentworth
March 24, 1943 – December 13, 2021
Sante Fe Springs, California
Lawrence (Larry) A. Wentworth age 78 passed away unexpectedly on December 13, 2021 at Whittier Hospital, Whittier, California. He is survived by his sons Michael J. Wentworth of Gatlinburg, TN, Phillip L. Wentworth of Broomfield, CO, his sister Jeannette Countryman of Henderson, NV, brother Stanton Wentworth of Colebrook, NH, granddaughters Meghan Wentworth, Wake Forest, NC, Phoebe Wentworth, Hancock, ME, Brooke Wentworth, Portland ME, one great granddaughter Anastazia Wilkinson, Hancock, ME, cousins Attorney Gail Varney Catalfo, Gatlinburg, TN and Mrs. Richard Priscilla Le Blanc, Rochester, NH. and David Stanley of Santa Fe Springs, CA who Larry raised as a son from a very early age.
Larry was raised in Farmington, NH. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged after serving four years. His ship was stationed off the coast of Cuba during the Cuban Missle Crisis. He sailed the world. The lyrics to Travelin' Man describes Larry's favorite memories of the Navy. I'm a travelin' man and I've made a lot of stops all over the world and in every port I own the heart of a least one lovely girl.
Larry returned to New Hampshire and took a position with New Hampshire Public Service. After retirement he headed out for his next new adventure to live where it never rains in Southern California. He took a job as park ranger with the State of California. He volunteered to hike the back country where a few rattlesnakes and unauthorized campers could be found. When he decided to retire again he went to Springer Mountain Georgia in March to walk the Appalachian Trail which he completed in October at Katahdin, Maine that same year. After Rand R in Dover, NH he headed back to California. Larry then went to Europe to bike in Ireland, England, and Greece. He still had one more adventure in him biking alone across the country from California to Dover, NH. We can only imagine his guardian angels were more than happy to return him to Heaven in one piece.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Phillip and Gladys Wentworth of Alton, NH and his brother Brian Wentworth also of Alton, NH and his Aunt Jeannette Varney. Gatlinburg, TN with whom he spent many good times. Private services will be held at a later date.
