Judith S. Levis, age 84, of Lovell Lake Road in Sanbornville, died peacefully at her home on August 19, 2015.
Born August 10, 1931 in Sharon, CT, the daughter of Leonard and Dorothy (Rae) Sanborn, she was raised in Nassau, Bahamas and Kingston, NH. She earned her BA in Education from Lesley University in 1952 and married Bruce Nicholson Levis in 1953. Judy taught elementary school in Newton (MA), North Hadley (MA), and Stratham (NH). She and Bruce owned and operated Maplevale Turkey Farm and Orchard in East Kingston for 38 years, assisted by their 5 children, family and neighbors. While at the farm, Judy led a 4-H cooking and sewing club in her home. She was an active participant at seacoast farmers markets. After selling the farm in 2001, Bruce and Judy moved to Sanbornville where she taught for another 10 years at Paul Elementary School and was active as choir director and organist at the Union Congregation Church in Union. Having been the editor of her college yearbook, Judy continued writing newsy correspondence and church newsletters. She dedicated her life to family, faith, and education and was loved by all who knew her. Judy was known for her culinary expertise and will be remembered for the many meals she lovingly prepared for family and friends, in particular for her signature chocolate chip cookies.
Survived by her husband: Bruce Nicholson Levis, and their 5 children: Bruce Nicholson Levis, Jr., Richard Campbell Levis and Robin Fimlaid, Edward Stevens Levis, Ronald Rae Levis and Bonnie Liu, Brenda Elizabeth Levis and Gary Willett, 3 grandchildren: Emily Mouracade and Kenalei Mouracade, Amy Levis, a sister: Betty Blank, 3 brothers: Charles Sanborn, Philip Sanborn and Donald Sanborn, also several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a brother John Sanborn.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at 2:30 pm at Union Congregational Church on Main Street in Union, NH with Rev. David Maleham, pastor, officiating. Interment was private at Greenwood Cemetery in Kingston, NH. If desired, memorial donations may be made in her memory to:
