Judith Ellen Fry (Matson), aged 86, of Alton, NH, passed peacefully in her home on June 28th, 2025. She was born the 9th of January, 1939 in Concord, NH to Donald Matson and Shirley Matson (Perkins). After graduating from Concord High School, she went on to further her education at Nasson College in Maine. Following her degree completion, Judy then worked as a social worker in Providence, RI for several years. In November of 1969, she was married to Thomas Edward Fry and soon after, they moved to Alton where she stayed for the rest of her life. Judy spent over 50 years devoting her time volunteering as a member of many committees, societies, and clubs, including; the Downtown Revitalization Committee, seeing through to completion of the Alton B&M Railroad Park behind Town Hall. She worked tirelessly with the East Alton Meeting House Society, the East Alton Fire Association, and the Alton Historical Society; all in service to improve the community she loved. She was an integral part of the Knights Pond Conservation Area in East Alton, one of the town's most beautiful walking trail areas, where she helped protect the land from imminent development and coordinated the trail monitoring program for over 30 years. She was a volunteer at Alton Elementary School for over 30 years and was a member of the Sports Car Club of NH and the White Mountain Chapter of the Model A Ford Club. In 2014 she was awarded the honor of "Alton Citizen of the Year" for her outstanding work and dedication to the town. Judith is survived by her son Thomas D. Fry, his wife Angelica, and her 2 grandchildren she so adored.
Calling hours will be held at Peaslee Funeral Home, ,12 School St. in Alton, Monday July 7th from 5-7pm. Her funeral will be July 8th at the East Alton Meeting House, 344 Drew Hill Rd., Alton, NH at 10am.
