John
Mammone
December 28, 1936 – April 20, 2023
John Mammone of Middleton NH passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2023, with his family in attendance.
He was born in Stamford, CT on December 28, 1936, the son of Joseph and Mary Mammone. After high school John joined and served in the Navy and the Army. He met and married Ruthann Johnson when he returned to Stamford. They had 2 daughters, Laurie and Janie.
They moved to West Milton, NH in 1971 and to Middleton, NH in 1978. John was a general contractor and a carpenter by trade. John graduated from New Hampshire College in 1976 with a BS in business administration, using the GI bill. In 1980, John was approached by the board of selectmen to restart the Middleton Fire Department. From there John also resurrected the women's auxiliary called "the Sirens". John served as Fire Chief and as Forest Fire Warden for 5 ½ years. In 2001 John was elected to the school board for 6 years and along with other board members built a new elementary school in town. Also, in 2008 John became Middleton's building and code enforcement/health officer for 13 years until he retired in 2021.
John was very proud of his Italian heritage. He was an active member of the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) for 45 years. He helped raise money for college scholarships and promoted good contributions of the Italian people. He was active on the local, state, and national level. He was awarded the Golden Lion award for outstanding service and dedication in 2007.
John believed in helping his fellow man and serving God and his community. Kindness is never overrated. And he made amazing cheese raviolis every Christmas.
