Obituary

John Frederick Fisher, of Wakefield, NH, passed away at the age of 76. He passed away on Tuesday April 16, 2025 in Wolfeboro, NH from complications due to a stroke.

John was born in Wolfeboro NH to Fredrick Fisher and Helen Fisher (Meserve) on October 19, 1948. He was the oldest of seven children, Paulette Barrows (Dick), Bruce Fisher (Susan), Bonnie Barrows (Jim), Mary Lee Ordway, Wendy Jannuzzi and Harold Fisher (Annette).

John grew up in East Wakefield, NH, learning how to drive the hay truck in the field at the age of 8 due to his stature. He went to school at the one room school house located in East Wakefield, near the Burleyville railroad crossing. He graduated from Spaulding High School in 1966. He was drafted in 1968 and was medically discharged the following year due to complications from a serious infection.

He was married to Mary Linda Welch on October 26, 1974, purposely putting his anniversary a week after his birthday so he would never forget it.

John was a licensed electrician and plumber. He worked for his father for many years, building many houses and camps around Belleau Lake in East Wakefield, NH. He and Bruce took over their father's business in 1986. He was a hard working man, often getting up very early to work in the family garden or tend the pigs at the farm with his brother in the morning, working throughout the day and not getting home until late afternoon. Then he would often go back out to work, making repairs or meeting with customers.

John was proud to have served his community as a selectman in the town of Wakefield in the early 1990s, followed by serving on the school board. He believed in the benefit of investing time and energy into bettering the community.

John had a few hobbies, including skeet shooting, target practice, and enjoyed playing scratch tickets and the lottery. He also enjoyed reading and watching classic westerns and watching his favorite game shows especially in his later years.

John is survived by his wife Mary Fisher (Welch), son Andrew Fisher (Jessica), and daughter Brittany Dunlap Martin (James).  He leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, siblings, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Bruce Fisher and his eldest daughter Sydney Morrissey (Fisher).
