John Edward Beckwith, Sr., "Jack", age 89, of Pine Island, Balch Lake, in East Wakefield, died September 13, 2014 at Mountain View Community in Ossipee, where he most recently resided. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 8, 1924 in St. Mary's, Pennsylvania, the son of William J. and Louisa M. (Rutz) Beckwith, he came from Angelica, New York and resided in Wakefield, NH for most of his life.
A Veteran of the United States Navy, he served during World War II on the U.S.S. Iowa, while four of his brothers also served their country during World War II.
For most of his working life, he was employed as a Carpenter.
John was a former member of the V.F.W., the American Legion and the Grange in Wakefield. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.
Widower of the late Barbara L. (Chick) Beckwith, he is survived by their 3 daughters: Barbara and husband Alan Laskey, Deborah and husband Steven Walker, Gloria and husband Bryan Dodier, 7 granddaughters, 6 grandsons and many great grandchildren, a sister Marcella "Marty" Slade, also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 sons: Richard Beckwith, William Beckwith and John E. Beckwith, Jr., a grandson: Joseph Laskey, a sister Chalene Hamilton and 6 brothers: David, Frank, James, Bruce, Robert and Eugene "Bud".
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday September 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at Peaslee Funeral Home, 2079 Wakefield Road in Sanbornville (Wakefield), NH with a calling hour prior to the service from 10-11am. Interment will follow at Woodman Cemetery in East Wakefield, with military honors by the United States Navy. If desired, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice.
