IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Barton
Ellis
December 13, 1952 – September 16, 2024
James B. (Jim) Ellis
Beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend Jim Ellis has passed away after a long illness. He will be greatly missed by all who know him.
Jim was born Dec. 13, 1952 in Chelsea, MA, the older of two sons born to Claude & Mae Ellis, and grew up in the nearby Boston suburb of Watertown. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1970, and from Northeastern University with a B.S. in civil engineering in 1975, where he also did graduate work.
Employed in his chosen field, Jim was a design engineer for E. Lionel Pavlo, Kaiser, and Charles T. Main engineering firms in Boston for a number of years, rising to the position of project manager for the Red Line subway extension in the late 1970's.
After a vascular event limited his vision, Jim turned his attention to real estate and property management in southern NH. He specialized in rehabbing rental properties long before the concept of 'flipping' houses was popular.
An avid and competitive photographer, Jim traveled the back roads of New England and eastern Canada in search of his favorite subject matter, rural landscapes. He often said these were among his fondest memories.
A truly gentle and good-natured man, Jim acquired a large and eclectic circle of friends down through the years. He married his longtime girlfriend, the former Marilyn Daly, late in life, and they made their home in Farmington, NH.
A doting pet owner, Jim was also an avid lifelong Boston sports fan.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ellis, her two daughters Melissa Coleman and Meagan Daly, and four grandchildren Athena Coleman, Kiera Mullen, Triniti Richards, and Chase Colado, as well as his younger brother, David Ellis of Temple, ME and extended family.
