IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Howard L.
Knight
December 20, 1947 – March 7, 2024
East Wakefield, NH
Howard (Howie) Lawrence Knight, age 76 of East Wakefield, NH, peacefully passed away on March 7, 2024, at Wentworth-Douglas Hospital in Dover, NH, surrounded by family and friends.
Howie is survived by his wife, Kelley Alexander, son Kyle Knight of Bellevue, Washington, his sister- and brother-in-law Lynn and David Beaver, nephews Timothy and Jamie Beaver, niece Stefanie (Beaver) Kizza, mother-in-law Carla Seibel and brother-in-law Travis Seibel. He was predeceased by his first wife, Pamela Knight, and his parents Sidney and Eleanor.
Howie was born in Portsmouth, NH in 1947, the son of Sydney Knight and Eleanor (Carter) Knight. He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and later received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Suffolk University. Howie had a long and distinguished career with Kemper Insurance, starting out in Boston while still in college. After college he worked for Kemper in Quincy, MA, and Winter Park, FL, eventually moving to their corporate offices in Illinois and retiring from his position as Corporate Controller.
Howie's passion was volunteering and helping others. While residing in Illinois he was very active with the Boy Scouts of America and was proud to see his son follow in his footsteps to become an Eagle Scout. After moving to East Wakefield, he immersed himself in the town and community. During his time there, he served as Trustee of the Trust Fund, a member of the planning board, a member of the budget committee, and proudly served as a member and chair of the Board of Trustees for Huggins Hospital. He was instrumental in building the Wakefield Food Pantry into the wonderful service organization it is today. Howie belonged to the Pine River Pond Association, serving as Treasurer for almost 20 years. In addition, he worked with AARP to provide tax preparation assistance to town residents. Always one to be involved, Howie also assisted with local golf leagues, the cribbage league, and numerous fund-raising events.
Anyone who knew Howie knows he loved people and made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed golfing and despite his size could hit the golf ball a country mile. He enjoyed skiing when younger, played a mean game of cribbage, delighted in cruising around Pine River Pond with a great big wave and smile for all he passed -- and always loved a good beer. However, most of all, he cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and friends and the time he spent on Pine River Pond.
Howie helped a great many people throughout his life and will be sorely missed.
