Obituary

Herbert Frank Leighton, age 81, of Dick Dame Lane in Farmington, was called to heaven by his savior on Thursday, June 7 2012.

Born in Middleton, NH on September 14, 1930, the son of Presco and Gladys (Russell)Leighton, he attended school in Union NH. He served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He was very proud of his military service.

Herbert married his sweetheart Mildred Ross on August 14, 1954 in North Lebanon,Maine. He worked at various jobs throughout his life, the last, being his favorite, a self employed trash collector, he loved visiting his neighbors and chatting with them while he picked up their trash. He was well liked by everyone that he met and he never met anyone he didn't like.

Herb and Millie raised four children, Kathryn and husband Phil Moffett of Farmington,NH, Michael and wife Nancy Leighton of Parsonsfield, Maine, Kenneth and wife Linda Leighton of East Wakefield, NH, Kelly and husband Larry Canney of Acton,Maine, also survived by his four grandsons whom he shared special relationships with, Matthew Moffett of Dover, NH, Adam Moffett of Bonita Springs, Florida, Nicholas and Ryan Canney, both of Acton Maine, his remaining brother Robert and wife Kathy Leighton, also various nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 4 sisters: Evelyn, Doris, Bernice and Eleanor and by 3 brothers Edwin, Albert and Francis, also his parents Presco and Gladys.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Nute Ridge Bible Chapel, 100 Nute's Road in Milton, NH with Pastor Robert Walsh, officiating. A visiting hour is prior to the service from 10-11am at the Chapel. Interment will follow with military honors by the United States Army at Forest Grove Cemetery in North Lebanon, Maine. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St Jude Children's Hospital or the Disabled Veteran Fund.
