Harold Leslie "Les"
Elder
September 1, 1948 – April 18, 2026
Harold Leslie “Les” Elder, 77, passed away on April 18, 2026. Born on September 1, 1948, in Sullivan, Illinois, Les later made his home in New Hampshire after serving in the United States Air Force and being stationed at Pease Air Force Base. He remained in New Hampshire for the rest of his life, building a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
Les was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Peggy, and a proud father to his daughters, Jennifer and Meagan.
For many years, Les worked as a Purchasing Agent at Portsmouth Paper Company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. Outside of work, he found great happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved gardening and spending time outdoors, as well as taking day trips with Peggy to some of their favorite places, including Alton Bay and Lake Wentworth. One of his greatest joys was the family’s annual summer vacations at York Beach, where he created treasured memories with family and friends that will be remembered for generations.
Les was very involved with the town of Milton and The Milton Food Pantry. He was the one who informed the members of his community page of all the happenings in the wonderful town of Milton that he loved so much.
Les will always be remembered for his quick wit, his sense of humor, and the jokes that brought smiles to so many. He had a generous spirit and a kind heart, always ready to lend a hand to a friend—or even a stranger—in need. Above all, his love for his family was constant and unwavering.
Les is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years; Margaret (Mawby) Elder, 2 daughters; Meagan Doyon Elder and Jennifer Elder Rollins & her husband Brian. 2 granddaughters; Emma Doyon and Hannah Doyon; his siblings, niece, nephews, cousins and many friends. Predeceased by his parents
Les will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
