IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gilbert J.
Barrioz, Sr.
January 1, 1945 – September 16, 2025
Gilbert Barrioz lived a long life full of love and happiness. Gilbert "Gil" Barrioz (The Cowboy) was born to Sarah and Roman Barrioz on January 1 1945 in Gilbert, Arizona. Although he lived in multiple places, Farmington became his home and he took pride in being a supportive member of the community.
Gil was a decorated veteran in the United State Army and National Guard. After his retirement from the military, he worked for St. Thomas Aquinas High School as a bus driver. He also worked as the Transportation Director at Farmington High School.
He was known to many as the "man in the cowboy hat" and could often be seen riding around town on his motorcycle. He was a hard working, loving, family man that aimed to make friends with everyone he met.
Gil had a passion for football that followed him throughout his life. He played football in college at Stanford and continued his passion by being part of the Farmington football coaching staff and coaching Pop Warner. When he wasn't coaching football, he coached softball. In his commitment to supporting different athletics, he also drove many different teams to games.
He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Brenda Barrioz, his siblings: Reynaldo, Elena, & Angie, his children: Frances, Veronica, Jaycee, Hilda, Travis, Michael, Gilbert, Ray, & Gunnar, his grandchildren: Davian, Zach, Victor, Nate, Jzlene, Xzavier, Carmen, Moses, Monica, Yvette, Vanessa, Estrella, Benito, Alejandra, Sutton, & Leighton, and his great grandchildren: Xavier, Catalina, Isaiah, Victor, Audrina, Alize, Mila, Emilio, Harley, & Emrie Grace.
Dad, you will be missed dearly. You were the person we could turn to fix everything, from helping with car trouble to a hug that felt like you were holding our world together. You always had a joke to make us laugh. You taught us that we could make anything happen if we put in the work and no goal was too far away. You were accepting of all our faults and showed us that love was given freely and unconditionally. You taught us to be brave when we were scared but that you would always be there for us if things were too tough. You were always there to pick us up when we fell and you always answered when we called, no matter the time or the distance. Because of your guidance, care, and love we are all better people. Thank you for helping us grow into the best versions of ourselves. You are forever in our hearts.
