Obituary

Gerard J. Gallant, age 102, of Chestnut Hill Road in Farmington, died Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Rochester Manor.

Born June 13, 1912 in Bath, Maine, the son of Andrew O. and Mary (Callaghan) Gallant, he was raised in Kittery, Maine and resided there for many years, moving to Farmington, NH in 1971. He was a graduate of Traip Academy.

Gerard received his A & E Aircraft license at East Boston Airport.

During the depression, he worked for a Mining Company in Bolivia. When he returned to the United States, he went to work at Pratt & Whitney in E. Hartford, CT and later worked for TWA at La Guardia Airport in New York.

In 1950, he returned to Kittery and bought Hobb's Grocery on Government Street also known as Gallant's Market. In 1967, he sold the store and worked for Seacoast VW Motors in Portsmouth and later at Beranger VW Motors in Rochester.

Widower of the late Barbara A. (Ross) Gallant, he is survived by their 2 sons: Andrew Gallant of Great Bend, Kansas and Stephen Gallant of Farmington, NH, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Peter's Church, 90 Central Street, Farmington, NH with Fr. Daniel J. Sinibaldi, pastor, as celebrant. A calling hour is prior to the service from 9:30-10:45am at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH. Interment will be private at Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth, NH.
