Gerald R. McCarthy, age 73, of Main Street in Farmington, died suddenly, at home, of natural cause on Friday, November 20, 2015.

Born December 16, 1941 in Dover, son of Cornelius and Pauline (Martineau) McCarthy, he was a lifelong resident of Farmington, a graduate of Farmington High School, Class of 1959 and a Veteran of the United States Army.

Prior to retirement, he was employed as a Master Electrician in the local area. A member of I.B.E.W. local 490, he served as President for many years, also as instructor in their apprenticeship program for many years.

Gerald was a Selectman for the Town of Farmington, having served many terms, also Selectman's Representative for the Budget Committee. He served on the Farmington Conservation Committee and the Farmington School Board. Also a trustee of the Farmington Cemetery Association.

He had served as a State Representative in Concord.

A member of the American Legion and the Elks Club on their "mens pool league".

He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, a member of the Farmington Fish and Game Club.

Jerry was a shareholder and member of the Board of Directors at the Farmington Country Club, where he played for years in the "mens twilight league".

A longtime coach and board member of the Farmington 500 Boys and Girls Club.

He was a communicant at St. Peter's Church.

Survived by his wife of 50 years: Beverly Ann (Langis) McCarthy and their 3 children: Jason R. McCarthy and twins: Karen Ann McCarthy and Kathy Ann McCarthy, also several cousins.

Calling hours are Tuesday evening from 5-8pm at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Peter's Church, 88 Central Street in Farmington. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Farmington 500 Boys and Girls Club.
