George William Essig, Jr., age 84, of Pearson Road in Alton, NH, passed away on April 1, 2026 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born February 10, 1942 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, a son of George William Essig, Sr. & Anna B. (Clark) Essig, he was a graduate of Rawway High School and attended Union Junior College. George was a musician, playing the violin, piano, saxophone, clarinet and bass guitar, having won a state award for music in New Jersey, as a violinist.

George was called to duty with the United States Army, serving from 1960-1966, having earned a Good Conduct Medal and Marksman.

He lived in Middletown, New Jersey for many years and resided in Alton, New Hampshire since 1985. While in NJ, he worked in management at Union Laboratories. In NH, he delivered Meals on Wheels in Alton and Gilmanton and worked with the US Census in 2020.

“He was a good man”.

Survived by his wife: Rita L. (Guimaraes) Essig, son: William G. Essig, 2 daughters: Adrienne DeLames, Michelle & husband Robert DeRoche, 6 grandchildren: Anna, Hannah & Luke DeRoche, Rita & Erica DeLames, and William Joseph Essig, 1 great grandson: Xander, his brother Ellis & wife Susan Essig , in law’s: Robin & wife Renee Guimaraes and Lynn Bagarozy, also several nieces and nephews.

As per his wishes, there will be no services. His family requests “please no flowers or bereavement cards”. Urn interment will be later at New Hampshire State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. Cremation care by Peaslee Alton Funeral Home.
