Obituary
Geoffrey Peter Stein, M.D., age 67, of Halls Hill Road in Alton, died unexpectedly, at home, on November 6, 2011.
Born January 28, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Benjamin D. Stein and Helen R. (Pakas) Stein, he was raised in Central Valley, New York and was a graduate of Monroe Woodbury Central High School, Class of 1961. He graduated from Fairleigh-Dickinson University in 1965. That fall he traveled to Italy to attend the University of Bologna, School of Medicine and Surgery graduating in 1971. From 1972-1975, he served his Internship and Residency at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, becoming Chief Resident in the Department of Pediatrics from 1975- 1976. He then served as Pediatrician with the summer program at St. John's Guild Floating Hospital. In 1976 he practiced medicine at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center, Rikers Island Health Services. After relocating to New Hampshire in 1977, Geoffrey began his long affiliation with Frisbie Memorial Hospital servingas a Physician in the Emergency Department. He then went on to be the director of that department from 1982-1987. In addition he was Co-Medical director of the former Chemical Dependency Unit (Pospects) from 1986-1997. Geoffrey continued working as a ER Physician until his retirement in 2009. Wanting to keep his hands in medicine , Geoffrey continued hiscareer at Seacoast Redicare as well as the Wound Care Center at Frisbie Memorial Hospital.
His hobbies included: fishing, golfing and gardening including yardwork. He was a great cook and enjoyed fine wine.A great lover of animals, with dogs being his favorite,especially his beloved Golden Retrievers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years: Jill K. (Moore) Stein, their son: Jeremy P. Stein of Boston, MA, his sister: Jane Weinstein of Essex, CT, 2 nephews: Dr. Geoffrey Weinstein of San Diego, CA and Dr. Bruce Weinstein of Milton, MA, and a niece: Carrie Weinstein of Mass.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.
