Everett Gordon "Butch" Nichols
Union, NH
Everett Gordon "Butch" Nichols, age 74, passed away peacefully On Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at home surrounded by his family, after a long and extremely hard fought battle with cancer.
Butch was born in Stamford, Connecticut on September 19, 1942 and grew up in The Cove in Stamford. He joined the United States Army in 1960 and served until 1964. While in the Army he was stationed in Alaska, and upon his discharge he hitchhiked from Alaska back to Stamford. Butch married the love of his life, Patricia M. (Blanchard) Nichols on February 26-27, 1965. The actual day was lovingly disputed for the entire 51 years of their marriage due to a misprint on the marriage certificate, by the minister. He and his brother opened and operated their own service station, Nicks II & IV, in Glenbrook, CT. for many years. Butch and Patricia moved to Union, NH in 1972 and raised their family. He worked for, and retired from, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 30 years, as a Shipwright. Butch was an extremely dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He loved carpentry, hunting and visiting with his friends.
Butch was predeceased by his parents Gordon Everett Nichols, Sr. and Jessie Agnes (Ede) Nichols, 2 sisters, Ethel (Nichols) Clark and Agnes (Nichols) Harris, and 2 brothers Gordon Everett "Corky" Nichols, Jr. and Donald Arthur Nichols.
Butch is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, 1 brother, Robert Nichols of Norwalk CT., 3 children, his eldest son, Donald W. Nichols and wife Cherie (Rooney) Nichols, of Rochester, NH., his daughter, Stephanie (Nichols) Bateman of Union, NH., and his youngest son, Leigh A. Nichols and wife Angie (Casperonis) Nichols, of Sanbornville, NH, 7 grandchildren, Matthew Nichols, Sarah Crowley, Samantha Bateman, Joseph Bateman, Thomas Bateman, Jessica (Nichols) Lahoux, & Tyler Nichols, and 2 great grandchildren, Jack Bateman and Arianna Lahoux.
Butch didn't want any funeral services, he wanted "a party", so there will be a celebration of life sometime in January. In lieu of flowers we ask that a donation be made, in his name, to the Central New Hampshire VNA & Hospice, 240 South Main Street, P.O. Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.
